Finding Joy in Creativity (One Necklace at a Time)

Running a business is rewarding—but let’s be honest, it can also be nonstop. Emails, decisions, deadlines, problem-solving on repeat. When your brain is constantly in “go mode,” it doesn’t leave much room for play.

That’s where creativity quietly steps in.

For me, creativity showed up in the form of jewelry making. Not as a business plan. Not as a side hustle. Just as an outlet.

After long days of managing logistics and leading people, sitting down with beads, wire, and stones felt almost rebellious. No spreadsheets. No strategy. Just color, texture, and the simple question of what feels good right now?

There’s something deeply satisfying about working with your hands when most of your day lives in your head. Jewelry became a way to slow down, to focus on something small and tangible, and to create without pressure. If a piece turned out great—wonderful. If it didn’t—also wonderful. No one was grading it. No one was waiting on it. It simply existed because I made it.

What surprised me most was how restorative it felt. Creativity didn’t drain energy; it gave it back. It reminded me that I’m more than my to-do list. That play has a place in adulthood. That making something just for the joy of making can be enough.

Some days, creativity looked like carefully designing a piece. Other days, it was a messy pile of beads and half-finished ideas. Both were exactly what I needed. There were no rules—just curiosity and a little sparkle.

For business owners especially, creative release can be a lifeline. When your work requires constant structure and responsibility, having a space where nothing has to be perfect is powerful. Creativity becomes a reset button. A reminder that joy doesn’t always have to be productive to be valuable.

So if you’re feeling stretched thin, consider this your permission slip. Pick up the paintbrush, the yarn, the camera—or the pliers and beads. Make something badly. Make something beautiful. Make something just because it makes you smile.

You might be surprised at how much joy you find—one small creation at a time. ✨
